Tooth Whitening (Bleaching)

Tooth Whitening (Bleaching)

Today, the number of people who wants to have a white smile increases day by day. Bleaching is an application that is applied most frequently and safely in aesthetic dentistry and is totally harmless when done with the right technique. Bleaching is mainly the process of bleach the natural color of the tooth with the bleaching gel.

Bleaching should not be confused with tooth stone cleaning. Tooth stone cleaning is cleaning the teeth called tartar with a vibrating tool and water. Brushing (polishing) operation made with special paste after cleaning the tooth stone is a process that has been applied for many years in dentistry. This is a basic procedure for maintaining oral health. Dental cleaning and polishing do not tinge the teeth, they just bring back the natural brightness of the teeth by removing the stains from the colorful food and beverages. Bleaching can be applied to vital and non-vital teeth. Teeth that have lost their vitality, that have been traumatized, and that colored after root canal treatment can reach the same color as neighboring teeth after bleaching. Congenital colorations, long-term antibiotic-use colorations, excessive fluorine intake colorations, and age-related colorations are opened between 4 and 6 tons. Bleaching is not performed in young and child whose development has not been completed, in pregnancies, in breastfeeding.

There are two type bleaching operations; ‘office type’ applied by the physician and the ‘home type’ applied by the person at home. Office type takes 15 min*3 = 45 min. The strength of the medicine used increases with the light source. Home type bleaching; the result can be obtained by using the medicine within 6 to 8 hours for 2 weeks. The combined use of both techniques is more accurate. The physician decides which technique should be used and the number of sessions at the end of the examination. Bleaching is an absolutely harmless application. However, if there are uncoated amalgam silver fillings in the mouth, if bleaching agents are applied to large composite fillings or if the gum protector do not properly applied may damage the patient. As in every practice, the technical knowledge of the physician, the bleaching agent used, the quality of the light source effects the result. At the end of two years, 50% of the old color return is expected. People may feel sensitivity after the procedure. This condition is less felt with tooth care gel after bleaching.
